When Science Encounters Art,Creativity Explodes——Successful Conclusion of 2019 CAPIGIANI Gelato-Baking Competition

On 14 July, 2019, the International College Students Innovative Competition of “Belt and Road” University Alliance for Food Science and Education2019 CAPIGIANI Gelato-Baking Competition was successfully concluded after review and selection of pre-contest plans and four days of stiff competition.

In the finals, 20 teams from 9 Chinese universities and 7 overseas universities battled it out, presenting all kinds of creative ideas.

An award ceremony was held after the contest, attended by over 30 guests from home and abroad, including Prof. Zhengyu Jin, Chairman of Steering Committee for Teaching Food Science and Engineering Majors under the Ministry of Education, Nianlin Zhu, President of China Association of Bakery and Confectionery Industry, Giancarlo Timballo, President of National Committee of Gelato-makers of the Public Businesses Italian Federation, Lining Xu, General Manager of Capigiani China.

Finally, Fairy in Roman by Dongmei Tan and Zhongxuan Wu from Jiangnan University received the Grand Prize. 9 teams from 9 domestic and foreign universities including Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Southwest University, Kasetsart University and Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences won the first, second and third prizes respectively. 4 teams from 3 universities namely, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Sichuan Agricultural University and Jiangnan University got the Best Idea Prize and Best Shape Prize respectively. The winners took their honor certificates and trophies from the hands of our distinguished guests.

After the award ceremony, students from home and abroad put up a fantastic show for entertainment, revealing rich histories and cultures ofBelt and Road” countries and the vigor of enterprising youth. Their performances won round after round of applause. The 2019 CAPIGIANI Gelato-Baking Competition that had lasted nearly two months officially came to a conclusion.
